Clan Cameron is one of the ancient clans of Scotland and was described as fiercer than fierceness itself. The stronghold of the Camerons is in the Scottish Highlands close the United Kingdoms highest mountains. This short comprehensive tour shows the clans influence.

Clan Donald is a large clan with a proud history. The clan extended it's influence in many parts of the country and on this short tour, we will concentrate on their heartlands and explore the stories of the MacDonalds.

Clan Hamilton

The name Hamilton is probably of Norman extraction. As a supporter of Robert the Bruce Walter de Hameldone received lands in Lothian and the surrounding areas. The title Lord Hamilton was created in 1474 when James Hamilton married the king's daughter.

Clan Henderson

Son of Henry" is a name which is found in various forms all over Europe and is believed to be a very old name. In Scotland, it was originally "Henryson" but Henderson was easier to say and has become the norm. The surname Hendry and Gunn are from the same roots.

Clan Johnston

A powerful clan on the Scottish Borders who frequently raided the north of England over the centuries. The name first occurs in the C13th and is probably derived from the barony Johnston in Annandale. There is also a northern clan whose lands centred on Speyside.

Clan MacGregor

Royal is my race, is the clan claim and the principal branch of the Clan Alpine. The MacGregors are a highland clan with their home on the border of Argyll and Perthshire. Rob Roy was the most celebrated member of the clan and hero of Sir Walter Scott's romantic novel.

Clan MacLeod

The clan is descended from the Norse kings of the Hebrides and Leod - son of the King of the Isles. Exploring the far west of Scotland it is one of the worlds few remaining wilderness. There are several ferries needed to Lewis and Harris and this makes a spectacular tour.

Clan Murray

With lands scattered throughout Scotland, the Murrays were influential in Scottish history. The name came from an Pictish tribe who lived in the Province of Moray. The principal family is said to have descended from a Flemish knight who received lands from David I.

Clan Robertson

The Robertson clan has claims to be one the oldest clans in Scotland and direct descendants of the Celtic Earls of Atholl. They are believed to have taken part at the first recorded battle in Scottish history, the battle of Mons Graupius in 84AD. The clan country is about 50 miles from Edinburgh.

Clan Campbell

One of the largest and most powerful clans, the Campbells stronghold mostly stretched from Glasgow into the Highlands.  There are many castles and lands associated with the clan.

Clan Ferguson

From an early date, there were many families with this name in Scotland. The Fergussons of the West Highlands were descended from a King of Dalriada one of the first Scots from Ireland to settle in Argyll. The Fergussons of Perthshire are regarded as the principal branch of the highland clan.

Clan Gordon

The Gordons left the lowlands when they were granted land on the North East of Scotland by Robert the Bruce. At one time, the clan was the most powerful in this part of the country being nicknamed the rock of the north. Anyone who adopted Gordon as a surname, was given a gift of oatmeal.

Clan Graham

Tradition says Hadrians Wall was breached by a Graham and there is no doubt that the clan is of very ancient origin. There are many branches of Graham most of them in the border area with England. They eventually inherited the title of the Dukes of Montrose as support of the Kings.

Clan Grant

Nothing certain is known of the origins of Clan Grant. Legend has it that the name comes from the descendants of King Alpin and others, from the Norman name, Le Grand. The Chiefs of the clan acquired high position and power within the region and generally supported the crown.
