Edinburgh has many outstanding places to eat, especially in the trendy portside suburb of Leith. We will travel through the Highlands stopping for a VIP whisky tour and the great British Experience, afternoon tea. On the way, we will have time to experience the incredible sites of Scotland.

Itinerary

Day 1: Edinburgh - Helicopter Flight - Royal Mile
EDINBURGH is one of the greatest cities in the World sand, as an introduction, we will take a HELICOPTER flight over the city. You will have unrivalled views of this World Heritage City including Carlton Hill, Princes Street and Arthur's Seat. From the helipad, a short journey to Leith and LUNCH at one the Michelin starred restaurant in this port part of the city. In the afternoon, we will take a stroll down the ROYAL MILE. This historic streets has numerous hidden alleys and legends. Stops can include the Castle, St Giles Cathedral and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Dinner tonight will be at one of the city centre restaurants.

Day 2: Stirling Castle - St Andrews - Tea
STIRLING CASTLE was once the residence of the Scottish Kings and it perches onto of an extinct volcano. It is here that some of the country’s most famous warriors lived and fought including William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. The historic city of ST ANDREWS is the home of golf. Amongst the sandy dunes you will be able to see the famous Old Course. AFTERNOON TEA is one of the great British traditions and we will stop at one of the tea rooms. Your overnight stay will be at the PEAT INN – this is a restaurant with rooms – only 10 bedrooms and winner of restaurant of the year in 2010.

Day 3: Dunkeld - Blair Castle - Distillery
Today, DUNKELD is the little town but is was the original seat of the kingdom of the Picts. A few miles on is BLAIR CASTLE. The seat of the Murray family, it is a classic castle and a major stately home. On the way to our overnight stop, we pass through Speyside. This has the highest number of whisky distilleries anywhere including names like MACALLAN, Glenlivet and Glenfiddich. Discovering the process is very interesting and we can take a whisky distillery tour. Our overnight stop is the BOATH HOUSE arguably the finest early C19th house in Scotland and another famed restaurant.

Day 4: Culloden - Inverness - Loch Ness - Castle
The Battle of CULLODEN is arguably the most important battle in Scotland’s history. In 1745, Jacobites – mainly highland Scots rose up against the British government in support of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s claim to the throne. INVERNESS is a busy city and after a brief stop here, we head down the west side of LOCH NESS - you will get the chance to spot the monster! At the southern end of the Loch is URQUHART CASTLE a romantic ruin and probably a very ancient site. INVERLOCHY CASTLE is a luxurious hotel a few miles from Fort William where Queen Victoria spent some of her vacations.

Day 5: Glen Coe - Loch Fyne - Glasgow
From Fort William, we will drive south through the spectacular mountain pass of GLEN COE. This valley has a very turbulent history and you will hear the stories behind the conflict between the Campbells and the MacDonalds. On the way to Glasgow, we will pass LOCH FYNE - home of the the world's best oysters. GLASGOW is Scotland’s largest city and has many elegant streets with outstanding Victorian architecture. At the east end of the new city is the CATHEDRAL – a wonderful example of gothic architecture. Built in the C13th, the church has a shrine to St Mungo – the patron saint of Glasgow.
